What to Expect

Pressed steel panel radiators pay £0.12–0.20/kg (£2–£4 per standard radiator). Cast iron radiators pay £0.12–0.18/kg but weigh significantly more (30–80kg each). Check whether your radiator is copper column — those pay at copper rates.

Preparation Tips

Drain completely before taking. Cast iron is worth more than pressed steel. Remove plastic valves and bleed screws.

Radiators are a common scrap item during central heating upgrades and home renovations. How much they are worth depends entirely on what they are made of.

Types and Prices

Steel panel radiators (modern white radiators): These are ferrous — they attract steel rates, typically £0.12–£0.20/kg. A standard double panel radiator weighs 10–20kg, so expect £2–£4 each.

Old copper/brass column radiators: Victorian and Edwardian column radiators may be copper or brass. Check with a magnet — if it does not stick, you have non-ferrous metal worth considerably more. Copper column radiators can be worth £4.00+/kg.

Cast iron radiators: Dense and heavy. Cast iron pays £0.12–£0.18/kg, but a full cast iron radiator can weigh 30–80kg. Worth £4–£15 each.

Preparation Tips

- Drain all water completely before transport

- Remove plastic valve covers and thermostatic heads if possible

- Keep different types separate: steel panels, cast iron, and copper each attract different rates

What to Expect at the Yard
